"Over the years, Yoga in the Gardens has grown into one of our most popular community programs, with attendance sometimes exceeding more than 400 participants per session." Sunnylands wrote that on September 30, 2026, in an announcement about its new yoga schedule. The next sentence gave the reason for the change: that many cars arriving at once "can create traffic congestion outside the Sunnylands entrance along Bob Hope Drive."
That one change explains how the Annenberg estate's free season now works. The Center & Gardens reopened on September 9 after the summer break. Most of the free programs, though, come back in November, and the most popular one now comes around once a month. Getting into the house has always meant buying a ticket on a specific day. The free events now work much the same way: they come down to a handful of dates.
The old schedule was simple. In January 2024, NBC Palm Springs reported yoga every Friday at 10 a.m. from November through April, with up to 400 people at peak season.
For 2026-27, yoga meets on the third Friday of each month, November through April, and starts an hour earlier at 9 a.m. The first session is November 20, 2026. Sunnylands says it will work with local law enforcement to manage traffic at the entrance, and it asks people to carpool. Instructors Stéfane Barbeau and Kristin Olson are both returning. Sessions are still free, last an hour, and need no reservation. Bring your own mat, water and sun protection.
Counting third Fridays on the calendar gives six sessions this season:
| Month | Third Friday, 9 a.m. |
|---|---|
| November 2026 | November 20 |
| December 2026 | December 18 |
| January 2027 | January 15 |
| February 2027 | February 19 |
| March 2027 | March 19 |
| April 2027 | April 16 |
Sunnylands has posted event listings for November 20 and December 18 so far. The 2027 dates come from counting third Fridays. Its event page says the schedule may change and gives 760-202-2222 for updates, so call to check those later dates before you go. The old weekly schedule would have offered about two dozen Fridays over the same months. Each session now carries more weight, and if the crowd sizes stay the same, a single morning could draw more people than it used to.
Ticketed access to the estate already ran on a strict calendar, and seven guests per tour is a hard limit. The Historic House Tour costs $58.19 per person and lasts 90 minutes. The Open-Air Experience costs $30.11 and lasts 45 minutes. Both depart from the Center & Gardens with a guide. The Open-Air Experience is a guided shuttle ride around the 200-acre estate. The house tour goes inside the Annenbergs' 25,000-square-foot midcentury modern winter home.
These are the rules that decide whether you get a spot:
That last rule comes from Sunnylands' other role. The estate still hosts world leaders and experts for gatherings aimed at, in the Trust's words, promoting "world peace" and facilitating "international agreement." When you book a house tour, you're scheduling around that work.
This week is a good example. November tickets go on sale Thursday, October 15, at 9 a.m., the same day Modernism Week's Fall Preview begins. Sunnylands' October tour calendar flags the 15th and the 18th as Modernism Week dates. It sends anyone looking for house tours during that event to Modernism Week instead of its own ticket page. The Modernism Week version is the same format: groups of seven ride electric shuttles from the Center to the house for a 90-minute guided tour inside. It runs daily October 15 through 18 and is sold through ModTix at $83.36, which includes $8.36 in fees. As of October 6, Visit Greater Palm Springs' schedule showed the 8:45 a.m. slot sold out on October 15, 16 and 18. Tickets were still listed for October 17.
That means two ticket systems run on the same Thursday morning, each with its own seller and its own price, and the same small tour groups.
With yoga down to six dates, Tai Chi is now the program that meets most often. It runs Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. from November 7, 2026, through April 24, 2027. It's free, lasts 60 minutes and needs no reservation. Nobody has announced a cap or a schedule change for it. For anyone who wants a regular weekend routine on the grounds, it's the one weekly program left.
These are the dated events on the fall calendar so far:
One gap is still open. Last season, free guided bird walks met Thursdays at 8:45 a.m. from November 6 through May 28, 2026. An older Sunnylands page describes a free guided gardens walk on Thursdays at 11 a.m. from November through April. Neither walk appears on the live calendar for November 2026 or later yet. Those Thursday times describe past seasons, and you should check the Sunnylands events calendar before planning around them.
The fall film series has already finished. Films in the Gardens ran free on three Fridays, September 11, 18 and 25, at 7:30 p.m. So far, the music series on the calendar is a Sunday program in March, not a fall series.
On any day without a scheduled program, the Center & Gardens work the same way they always have. Admission and parking are free. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Center is closed every Monday and Tuesday, and also on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. That puts the third-Friday yoga date in December, the 18th, one week before Christmas. The January date, the 15th, falls two weeks after the New Year's closure.
Inside, the current exhibition is Curating Canopy: Trees at Sunnylands. Its run, printed as "Sept. 10, 2025, through June 6, 2027," covers this entire season, with the show staying up through June 2027. KESQ reported the same June 6, 2027, closing date. The Gardens Guide covers more than 70 native and arid-adapted plant species, and five self-guided audio walks connect the garden design to paintings in the Annenberg collection.
A few rules shape a longer visit:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Café reservations? | Not accepted. Seating is first-come, first-served for café customers. |
| Café hours? | No separate hours are posted. The Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Picnics? | Allowed. Large coolers, ice chests, grills and alcohol are not, and café tables are for café customers. |
| Dogs? | Not allowed, except service dogs covered by law. |
The picnic rule matters most on yoga mornings. A free hour of yoga at 9 a.m. can easily turn into a picnic lunch at noon, since the program and the grounds sit on the same land and admission costs nothing. Sunnylands' reason for cutting yoga back was too many cars arriving together at one entrance. Arriving later or carpooling, which is what Sunnylands asked for, eases the exact problem it described.
Sunnylands has also been courting local residents more actively. In November 2025, the Coachella Valley Independent described its community programs and its partnerships with Raices Cultura, Nickerson-Rossi Dance and the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The new yoga schedule is what happens when that outreach works. More people showed up, and Sunnylands answered with fixed dates, a traffic plan and a request to share rides.
Part of owning a home in Rancho Mirage is knowing how places like Sunnylands actually work: tickets go on sale on the 15th, the parking backs up on Bob Hope Drive, and yoga now falls on third Fridays.
